I'm not an elitist, it's not like I'm advocating everyone go buy some Shures or something, but someone who spends tons of money on an mp3 player should probably spend more than $10 on the headphones. It's really bottlenecking their experience. It's like buying a supercar and putting bicycle tires on it.
Many who buy mp3 players buy them for music on-the-go, their convenience and usually don't care much for the sound quality (as well as being inexperienced when it comes to such), which there isn't anything wrong with if that's all they want. If they did care about the SQ, they'd purchase a decent pair of IEMs/Headphones (and a cheap portable DAC/Amp combo if they care that much) to go along with it. Besides, a number of mp3 players these days aren't exactly known for their
audiophile quality even with a good pair of IEMs/Headphones due to poor amplification & audio chips... so, I wouldn't exactly say something like the iPod Touch w/stock earbuds is comparable to a supercar with bicycle tires.
